Complex SEND
Autism, severe learning disabilities, complex communication needs, sensory differences and individual learning profiles.
Specialist part-time alternative provision
EmpowerEd North supports autistic young people and young people with severe learning disabilities, complex communication needs, sensory needs, anxiety, dysregulation or placement breakdown.
We start with the young person: what helps them feel safe, how they communicate, what overwhelms them, what they enjoy and what a realistic next step could look like. Learning is shaped around strengths, EHCP outcomes and the small steps that build confidence over time.
Who we support
Autism, severe learning disabilities, complex communication needs, sensory differences and individual learning profiles.
Learners experiencing anxiety, dysregulation, prolonged non-attendance, disengagement or risk of placement breakdown.
Transition planning for school, college, supported living, social opportunities, community access or other agreed outcomes.
How we work
EmpowerEd North is designed for learners who may not be ready for a standard timetable or classroom model. Sessions can be low-demand, practical, community-based or highly structured depending on what the young person needs.
For one learner, progress might be sharing space with another person. For another, it might be using a communication system, visiting a familiar shop, returning to a learning routine or preparing for next steps such as college.
EmpowerEd North is developing as a specialist part-time alternative provision, rather than a school. We do not offer full-time placements at this stage, so each placement is planned with the family, school, local authority or other commissioner and reviewed carefully.
Why EmpowerEd North?
EmpowerEd North is led by experienced SEND practitioners with significant experience in autism, severe learning disabilities, complex communication needs, sensory-informed practice, safeguarding, curriculum design and specialist provision.
The work is practical and relationship-based: understanding the learner, reducing pressure, building trust and helping the adults around them know what support actually works.
Enquiries may be considered across Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Northumberland, depending on need, location, staffing and commissioning arrangements.
Bespoke transition support
Some young people need careful support before they can move on. This might mean returning to school, starting college, accessing social or leisure opportunities, preparing for supported living, attending appointments or becoming more comfortable in community spaces.
We can work gradually with the learner so they feel safer with the adults, places, routines and expectations involved in the next step.
Where agreed, we can liaise with the school, college, setting, social care team or community organisation receiving the learner.
This may include visual supports, social stories, graded visits, sharing strategies, modelling approaches and helping other adults understand what works.
What makes the work meaningful
Many learners first need predictability, trusted adults, sensory understanding and low-pressure routines before formal learning can happen.
Communication may include speech, AAC, visuals, gesture, movement, behaviour or changes in regulation. We respect how each learner communicates.
Learning can include community access, independence, daily living skills, self-advocacy, choices and preparation for adulthood.
Schools, local authorities, families and professionals are welcome to make an initial enquiry. Please avoid sending highly sensitive documents until a secure sharing route has been agreed.
